Background
Predominantly a self taught artist, Jeanne received her initial training at an early age through private instruction. She later attended the Ridgewood School of Art in New Jersey and Pratt Institute in New York. While Jeanne is best known for her realistic still life paintings which portray the beauty of the world she encounters up close on a daily basis—from a classical bowl of fruit on a table to an abundance of blossoms from her garden—she has gracefully slipped into a new genre of painting a subject always close in heart...animals. When referring to this new series, "...Looking Up!" Jeanne commented about how events in our lives can provide a catalyst for change, which in turn gave her pause to “...look up at the vastness around me...look up from my easel...from my small still life arrangements on a table in my studio...look up at the blueness of the sky! Fresh beginnings!” Here she explored the emotional quality of painting with a new freedom applied to landscapes by the use of liberal brushstrokes. However, this quickly evolved into a landscape with wildlife, and then a focus entirely on animals. With her recent acceptance into the "Art for Critters" group, she has become inspired to pursue these portraits in vivid detail, with the same sensitivity and skill as evidenced in her still life paintings. This new work can be seen on her latest blog, "Looking After Them...".
Dedication
In memoriam of my cat whom we found 12 years ago as a kitten thrown into a city street gutter and left unconscious, I am dedicating this newest series of paintings to causes that endeavor to protect animal rights so that you too, can take action against abuse as a percentage of proceeds earned from your purchase will be donated to these charities. Having recently joined the “Art for Critters” group, I am looking forward to working with these wonderful artists to further pursue our mutual goal of combining our passion for painting with our love of animals to generate funds for animal rights charities. My sincere thanks for sharing this effort with me.
